Through the years of implementation, the READ Program has raised a cohort of national experts in participating countries who now realize their career aspirations taking a part in global dialogue on the future of education. They do it through different tools offered by the international organizations such as, for example, UN Major Groups. UN Major Groups promote the role of civil society and the importance of enabling all members of civil society to be actively engaged in sustainable development. NGOs of Central Asia and Russia where our experts work joined the UN NGOs Major Group in 2020. They share results and approaches learnt while participating in READ with their colleagues all over the world.
On January 28th specialists participating in the READ Program took part in discussion in frames of the 1st webinar organized by Major Group NGOs with support of representatives of UN member states. The main topic for the discussion was strategies and tools for provision of political leadership of the High Level Political Forum in solving key issues of the Sustainable Development agenda related to overcoming results of the COVID-19.
Many participants noted that at the moment many countries look into implementation of the SDGs only in frames of national borders, ignoring interrelations of issues and underestimating global trends. Before the pandemic many participants of the process clearly saw that SDGs won’t be reached, that’s why development of the new strategy and tools are very actual and needed asap. During the webinar participants received presentations from other major groups such as “Healthcare as a fundamental right”, “Climate change”, “Inequality, diversity and inclusion” and “System economical reform”.
Joint regular discussion of common problems by specialists from different countries of the same region lays a solid foundation for successful cooperation in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
